Quick Queerie: Ron Livingston suing over gay entry in Wikipedia

According to TMZ, “Office Space” star Ron Livingston is suing some unnamed person for repeatedly updating his Wikipedia article to state that he’s gay. Livingston, whose unkempt look and recent marriage to “United States of Tara” star Rosemarie DeWitt, screams that he’s straight.

The anonymous updater also links Livingston to Casting Director Lee Dennison (who people seem to doubt even exists) and, according to Livingston, the person has also created Facebook profiles for each of them stating that they’re a couple.

Wikipedia will probably have to give up the person’s identity for the suit to continue.

[UPDATED PIC] Behold the hockey stick: Playgirl releases Levi Johnston’s second set of photos

4 Stars

Today, Playgirl.com released Levi Johnston’s second set of photos from his nude photo shoot. And guess what? The hockey stick has made its debut. No, he didn’t go full frontal. He poses with a literal hockey stick. And you know what? It goes a long way…

Shocked: Levi has found his “smize”! He definitely doesn’t look as frightened as he did in the first set of pics and that helps with not feeling dirty for looking at a 19-year-old.

[UPDATED] Adam Lambert: Not a stand-up gay, Part 2

I’ve been clear of what my opinion of Adam Lambert was during his stint on “American Idol.” He annoyed me back on A.I. when he was closeted (at least publicly, pictures released show that his private life was homo-rific), and he continues to annoy me today.

By the way, who didn’t know that he was gay? Obviously, most of America. Of course, I wasn’t surprised that in the end folksy, all-American, painfully straight Kris Allen ultimately won A.I. He was the much more digestible choice.

Regarding the AMA performance: My assumption is that most Americans don’t have gay friends. If they did, then their reaction to the AMA performance would be more like, “Oh, there’s Adam again – dancin’ silly and kissin’ boys.” Instead, the Hot Topic poster boy with a penchant for musical theatricality is at the center of a huge national controversy.

LAME!: Gays & Celebs respond to New York’s vote against gay marriage

The world just isn’t safe for queers when even New York gives way to extreme religious zealots, bigots and discrimination. This morning, the New York State senate voted 38 to 24 against a bill that would legalize gay marriage in the state.

A protest in New York City has already been set:

TIMES SQUARE, 6PM TONIGHT, 12/2/09, TKTS STAIRS

The Republicans in the senate, of course, voted unanimously against the bill. That’s not a surprise, since the party is notoriously united when it comes to, well, everything. Conversely, the Democratic party is a splintered mess. Not that it would have helped in this case, since they didn’t have the numbers to pass the bill without some Republican crossover. What bothers me, though, are the few Democrats who decided to use the doomed voting process as a way to kiss up to their constituents.

[UPDATED] The fate of ‘Ugly Betty’: It ain’t looking good

Last night, I read a tweet from Ugly Betty TV saying:

“Don’t be alarmed: But please take the time to sign the “Save Ugly Betty” petition http://bit.ly/8B1s5k.”

Of course, I became alarmed.

“Ugly Betty” had big goals. Singlehandedly, it created a world where a short, chubby Latina and her band of vapid fashion foils could cross the politically correct line and create a world where a Tranny could run a company and have a kid, a gay can get over the programmed beauty standard to date (then lose) someone with formidable love handles and the atypical Hollywood starlet could be an object of desire for hot men and achieve her career goals in a world that didn’t welcome her otherness.

The media on Tiger Woods: When do you sell your soul for a scoop?

As part of the hustle I call my career, I write for the entertainment section of a major metro newspaper. I have to say that I’ve never saw myself as controversial or as gutter-mouthed as I do when writing for this publication. I’ve definitely gotten in trouble for using words (harmless terms like “douche” and “bitch”) that most of us use daily, as well as hear on TV frequently. At times, though, I’ve wondered whether my taste level is “low” or in today’s multiplatform news arena, theirs is too high (but that’s another post)! I’ve also received some attention for having opinions that aren’t necessarily shared by my colleagues in the mainstream media. In those cases, I applaud the newspaper for standing behind me as they received complaint after reader complaint without removing the article and even apologizing. But as I consider myself candid and populist, I’ve discovered that there are some lines I won’t cross. Read More

How to be a diva: Lessons from ‘Beyoncé: I Am…Yours’

On Thanksgiving, America brought their plates to the living room and put away the scrabble to spend one hour watching the diva stylings of Ms. Beyoncé Knowles in “Beyoncé: I Am… Yours,” a behind-the-scenes/performance mash-up on ABC.

The special was packed full of diva moments from Beyoncé.

Follow along with the video as I review the lessons below:

Levi Johnston in Playgirl (or one way to piss off Palin)

3 Stars

I’ll admit that I was just as interested in seeing Levi’s “johnson” as the next gay. I mean he was so close to becoming America’s top baby-daddy, who wouldn’t?

After much anticipation, Playgirl.com posted the first set of nude photos from Johnston’s shoot. We already knew that he wasn’t going the full monty (even though his manager, Tank Jones, had said he would), but it was still a pretty big event (pun intended). Daniel Nardicio, Playgirl’s Creative Director, told GaySocialites.com that if Levi did go full frontal he would have nothing to be embarrassed about (except, of course, that he posed for Playgirl).

According to Playgirl.com, they will release two more sets of photos over the next two weeks. Reports of a hockey stick being involved in one of those picture sets? Well, that’s just genius marketing.

‘Twilight Series: New Moon’: Didn’t kill

3 ½ Stars

If you like half-naked men, really pale guys, vampire lore and tween chick-lit come to life, but have some level of taste, then your take on “Twilight Saga: New Moon” would be similar to mine. It ain’t good, but I didn’t hate it.

In this second installment of the vampire series, Bella (played by a heavily exhaling and expressionless Kristen Stewart) is left to her own devices after Edward (played by a dour Robert Pattinson) decides she’s safer without him and disappears. In his absence, she uses Jacob (pedophile-attracting Taylor Lautner) to keep her mind off Edward. In the meantime, she’s introduced to yet another world of supernatural when Jacob and his gang are transformed into werewolves.

Shocked: After reading the novels*, I was unsure how they would include Pattinson in any meaningful way. In the novel, Edward is totally absent (except for in Bella’s delusions) for ¾ of the story! Their solution? Really low-budget floating Edwards appear whenever Bella is doing something dangerous, which pretty much stayed true to the novel. Plus, they really served up the Edward “moody hotness” scenes at the beginning and end. I think it worked, because like Bella, I never forgot about Edward and when he was actually there, I definitely felt like a lovesick teen happy to just see the object of my affection. Read More
